We’re Always Excited to Welcome New Visitors
At SMC, we're always excited to welcome new visitors. We hope you'll join us for a service, and we want to make your visit as comfortable as possible. Here's what you can expect when you come to our 11:30 am service.
Our church is located at 255 Johnston Ave, and parking is located on the side of the church.
If you have mobility restrictions or young children to carry, feel free to use one of the spots closest to the door. We like to keep them free for visitors and people who need assistance.
Please don't worry about what you'll wear to church,
for we truly believe people should come to God as they are. You don't need to dress up to get his approval--that comes through Jesus' sacrifice. Once you walk in the doors, you'll see that the congregation has all types of people in all kinds of dress. While a few people in the church wear ties, others like to remind them that Jesus never wore a tie. Shorts are as welcome as suits, and you'll see both.
When you walk in,
find one of our greeters and introduce yourself. They're usually stationed at the doors and Welcome Desk, and they'll show you where everything is. They'll help you find the nursery and Sunday school rooms if you have kids. Our greeters can also point you to the restrooms, sanctuary and fellowship area. If you have any questions about the service itself, the greeters are able to provide helpful answers.
Be sure to hang around after the service and join us for tea.
You'll have a chance to meet our pastor and many other people in the church. We'd also love to get to know you so you're a familiar face the next time you come.
When you come to join us for the first time,
one of our greeters will be glad to help you become comfortable. If you'd like, they'll help you find the nursery (which is fully staffed and safely run), restrooms, sanctuary and, of course, coffee after the service.
During the service,
you'll hear our faith expressed in the songs we sing, prayers we offer up and our pastor's preaching. All parts of our service are grounded in the Bible, which we are committed to upholding. At SMC, we agree with the Apostle's Creed, which we may read during the service. The Apostle's Creed is the most ancient Christian creed, and you'll find it is upheld by almost all churches today.
After the service,
join us for a cup of tea and give us a chance to get to know each other. Say hello to our pastor and anyone else you see. We'd all love to hear your story and share ours with you.
No matter what your Christian background is (or isn't), we hope you'll join us on Sunday. Here at Your Church, you'll find people of all sizes, stripes and colors, and we welcome everyone--including you. Our services start at 11:00 am and every Sunday.
"And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works."
(Hebrews 10:24)
At SMC, we have a simple hope: to see people come to know Jesus Christ and grow in their Christian faith. Our ministries come in all shapes and sizes. Please come and join us for worship.
Men's Ministry
"...as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” Joshua 24:15
A godly man is a servant, and a leader of his home. He is a spiritual leader who serves his family, his place of work by being a godly example.
Women Ministry
"Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, but a woman who fears the LORD, she shall be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her own works praise her in the gates. ” Proverbs 31:30-31
Women's Ministry at SMC enables women to be emotionally and spiritually healthy; it is also a regular program of sharing the biblical principles of being a virtuous woman and practical courses on life-long planning to help them be better homemakers.
Children Ministry
"Children, obey your parents in all things, for this is well pleasing to the Lord.” Colossians 3:20
Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, The fruit of the womb is a reward.
Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one’s youth.
Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them; they shall not be ashamed, but shall speak with their enemies in the gate. Psalm 127:3-5
Youth Ministry
"[ Take Heed to Your Ministry ] Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.” 1 Timothy 4:12
Our purpose is to equip our youth with the life-changing message of Jesus Christ, so that they can handle the 21st century challenges in their lives and overcome.
Media is clearly a part of everyday life. Today's young people have the access and means to acquire more info than ever before. The potency of today's media and pop culture's messages can make morals and values education lilt in their powerful glow. Therefore we strive to be relevant and teach how to engage culture the Jesus-centered way.
Praise & Worship
"Exalt the LORD our God, And worship at His footstool— He is holy.” Psalm 99:5
We worship God by expressing our love, exalting, adoring and acknowledging the Lord God Almighty.
"Let the whole earth sing to the Lord! Each day proclaim the good news that he saves. Publish his glorious deeds among the nations. Tell everyone about the amazing things he does. Great is the Lord! He is most worthy of praise! He is to be feared above all gods. The gods of other nations are mere idols, but the Lord made the heavens! Honor and majesty surround him; strength and joy fill his dwelling. O nations of the world, recognize the Lord, recognize that the Lord is glorious and strong. Give to the Lord the glory he deserves! Bring your offering and come to worship him. Worship the Lord in all his holy splendor."(1 Chron 16:23-29 NLT)
Missions/Outreach
"Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Amen.” Matthew 28:19-20.
African Missions
WCOM International Office has been actively involved in missions both national (USA) and Africa continent in alleviating human suffering during disasters and other unavoidable catastrophe facing humanity.
Our humanitarian support was appreciated during Katrina hurricane in New Orleans, Water drilling support in Darfor, Sudan, Rwanda resettlement and Kenya’s post election war (IDPs) -- in this case our sister church received over 600 internal refugees during the fighting.
Thanks to the Red Cross who came for our rescue. Thanks to the Doctors without borders for responding to our call for the wounded in Kibera where dozens of children were treated.
